Ask how a company system or process works. The knowledge-search skill searches Confluence and Jira, combines relevant findings and cites the sources behind its answer.
Overview
Atlassian MCP bundles a connection to Atlassian’s hosted MCP server with skills for working across Jira and Confluence. The skills give your agent workflows for finding internal information, reporting on delivery and creating work from documents. In Claude Code, Claude can select a relevant skill from your request, or you can choose one yourself from the slash-command menu under the Atlassian plugin.
You provide the relevant project, document or question. Depending on the task, the agent can search existing information, assemble a report or dashboard, or prepare Jira work items. The specification and meeting-note workflows include a review of the proposed work before creation.
- Access and changes MCP actions use your existing Atlassian permissions, so review high-impact changes before confirming them.
- Rovo credits MCP requests that retrieve data or generate insights consume Rovo credits from your organization’s shared pool.
Use Cases
Prepare a project update
Specify the Jira project, reporting period and audience to produce a status report covering progress and blockers, with the option to publish it to Confluence. For a visual review of current work, request a sprint dashboard; its presentation adapts to the agent’s available renderer.
Follow up on meeting commitments
Provide pasted meeting notes or a Confluence page. The agent extracts action items, resolves assignees and presents the proposed Jira tasks for confirmation before creating them.
Plan implementation from a specification
Point to a Confluence specification and choose the target Jira project. Review the proposed breakdown, then create an Epic followed by implementation tickets linked to it.
Check a bug before filing it
Supply an error message or bug report to search Jira for similar issues and past fixes. Use the findings to decide whether to add context to an existing issue or create a new bug.

Claude Code
Use an existing Claude Code session. To access Atlassian data, you also need an Atlassian Cloud site with the relevant Jira or Confluence access and a browser for sign-in.

Add Atlassian’s plugin marketplace. Enter this command inside Claude Code.

Open the Atlassian plugin’s details with this command in the same Claude Code session. Review the plugin, choose its installation scope and complete the installation in the panel.

Check the installation summary. If it says the plugin is active, continue. If it requests a reload, close the panel to apply it. If the plugin remains pending, restart Claude Code to load it.

Open the MCP connection manager with this command inside Claude Code. Select the Atlassian connection and start authentication, then sign in through the browser and review the requested access before authorizing it.

Check the skills and site access
Type a forward slash in Claude Code’s input and check that the Atlassian plugin’s skills appear in the menu. In the MCP connection manager, check the Atlassian connection’s status.
After authentication, ask the agent to list your Jira issues. Check that the response contains live data from the intended Atlassian site within your permissions. If it returns no data or an access error, use Atlassian’s connection troubleshooting guide.
