Investigate a production incident
When errors rise or requests slow down, use SRE’s structured triage to discover available data, test hypotheses with queries, and retain useful findings for later investigations.
Investigate production issues, build dashboards, and manage alerts in Axiom from your coding agent.
Axiom combines task-specific skills with a hosted MCP connection for working with logs, metrics, dashboards, and alerts. The skills give your agent investigation methods and scripts; the MCP server provides tools for exploring and querying your Axiom data and managing monitoring resources.
Agents can select relevant skills from your request. You can also choose skills manually through Claude Code or Cursor’s slash menu, or Codex’s skill picker. Gemini CLI asks for consent before activating a matching skill. Script workflows need separate credentials from MCP sign-in, and SRE keeps investigation memory locally.

Turn questions about service health into dashboard panels backed by event or metrics queries. For a chart inside a terminal or conversation, the metrics-chart skill renders saved Axiom metrics responses.
Create or update monitors and notification destinations, then inspect monitor history to adjust thresholds, schedules, and trigger behavior.
Analyze usage and query patterns to identify unused fields or values and build cost dashboards and monitors. Usage analysis needs the relevant audit data; the optimization phase also needs access to axiom-history.
Translate SPL queries into APL using command mappings and syntax guidance, including explicit time filters and field-type differences. The dashboard skill can use those translations when migrating Splunk dashboards.
Send JSON, NDJSON, or CSV to Axiom and confirm ingestion with a query. If no organization is configured, the agent can provision a temporary one and give you a claim link; claim it within 24 hours to keep the organization and its data.

Investigate incidents through systematic triage, hypothesis testing, and queries against available observability data.
Build Axiom dashboards from service questions, templates, or existing Splunk and Grafana dashboards.
Render saved Axiom metrics responses as terminal charts or optional image output.
Create, update, and validate Axiom monitors and their notification destinations.
Find unused data through query analysis and build cost dashboards and monitors.
Translate Splunk SPL queries into Axiom APL with syntax and function mappings.
Create a temporary Axiom organization that expires after 24 hours unless claimed.
Load JSON, NDJSON, or CSV into Axiom and confirm ingestion with a query.

Explore and query Axiom data and metrics, and manage dashboards, monitors, and notifiers.
The bundled connection uses Axiom’s US MCP service. If query results must remain in the EU, use the EU service described in Axiom’s region guidance.
Full-plugin routes install the skills and the Axiom MCP connection together. Skills CLI routes install only the skills. For workflows that run local scripts, follow the script configuration guide: MCP sign-in does not supply their API credentials. SRE uses ~/.config/axiom-sre/config.toml; other scripts use ~/.axiom.toml, and cost-control workflows need both. Bundled scripts need jq and curl; SRE also needs timeout or gtimeout, cost control needs bc, and metrics-chart uses Python 3.
In your terminal, add Axiom’s marketplace.
claude plugin marketplace add axiomhq/skillsInstall the Axiom plugin.
claude plugin install axiom@axiomRestart Claude Code, then open its MCP controls and select axiom to authorize access in your browser.
/mcpType / in Claude Code and look for skills under the axiom plugin name. To check the connection, ask the agent to list your Axiom datasets and confirm that the returned names belong to the organization you intended to connect.
This installs the skills without the bundled MCP connection. Install the full set so skills that depend on one another remain available.
Run the installer from your project’s terminal and select Claude Code as the target agent. The default installation applies to the current project.
npx skills add axiomhq/skillsStart a new Claude Code session in the project. Type / and search for an Axiom skill to confirm that Claude Code has loaded it.
This is Axiom’s documented local-import method. On Teams or Enterprise, an administrator must first enable Allow Local Plugin Imports.
In your terminal, clone the repository into Cursor’s local plugin directory.
git clone https://github.com/axiomhq/skills.git ~/.cursor/plugins/local/axiomReload Cursor and authorize Axiom in your browser when prompted.
Type / in Agent chat and search for an Axiom skill. Ask the agent to list your Axiom datasets to check that the connection reaches the intended organization.
As a Teams or Enterprise administrator, open Plugins & MCPs in the Cursor dashboard, choose Add Marketplace, then Import from Repo, and import axiomhq/skills.
In Cursor’s marketplace panel, find the Axiom plugin and install it at project or user level.
Reload Cursor and authorize Axiom when prompted. Type / in Agent chat and search for an Axiom skill, then ask the agent to list your Axiom datasets and check that they belong to the intended organization.
This installs the skills without the bundled MCP connection. Keep the full skill set because some Axiom skills depend on others.
Run the installer from your project’s terminal and select Cursor. The default installation applies to the current project.
npx skills add axiomhq/skillsRestart Cursor to discover the installed skills, then type / in Agent chat and search for an Axiom skill.
Use Codex CLI for this installation. Plugins are not supported in the Codex IDE extension.
In your terminal, register Axiom’s marketplace.
codex plugin marketplace add axiomhq/skillsInstall the plugin, which includes the skills and hosted MCP connection.
codex plugin add axiom@axiomAuthorize Axiom in your browser when prompted, then start a new Codex session to load the plugin. If you previously added Axiom MCP manually, keep one connection to avoid duplicate tools.
Type $ to open the skill picker and look for the Axiom skills. Ask Codex to list your Axiom datasets and confirm that the returned names match the organization you authorized.
This installs the skills without the bundled MCP connection. Standalone skills work in Codex CLI, the desktop app, and the IDE extension.
Run the installer from your project’s terminal, select Codex, and keep the full skill set so dependent skills remain available. The default installation applies to the current project.
npx skills add axiomhq/skillsIn Codex CLI or the IDE extension, type $ and look for the Axiom skills. In the desktop app, open Skills in the sidebar. If the new skills do not appear, restart Codex.
Run the extension installer in your terminal, outside Gemini CLI’s interactive session.
gemini extensions install https://github.com/axiomhq/skillsRestart Gemini CLI, then authorize Axiom in your browser using its MCP authentication command.
/mcp auth axiomAsk Gemini to list your Axiom datasets and confirm that the returned names match the intended organization. When you later request a task that matches a skill, Gemini asks for consent before activating it.
