Runway Dev gives coding agents guidance for building with Runway’s API and a connection to your Runway Dev account. The skills guide application code through the official SDKs; the MCP connection lets the agent inspect project models, manage Model Routers and Characters, and investigate failed tasks.
In Claude Code, Codex and Cursor, the agent can select relevant skills from your request, and you can select a skill manually. The plugin supports integration work; media generation runs through your application’s API calls. Those calls need a separate server-side API key and may consume credits.
When adding a generation feature to an existing app, the skills guide the agent through the selected model’s request format, SDK task handling and interface states. The agent can check the models and limits available to your project before implementing the integration.
Give your application a saved preference for cost, speed or quality instead of fixing one model in code. The agent can inspect or change a Model Router and help integrate requests that use it.
Share a task ID so the agent can inspect its returned failure details and consult the current error documentation. When the response lacks enough evidence to explain the failure, the skill directs the agent to ask for sanitized inputs or logs rather than guess a cause or resubmit the task.
For an app with a real-time Character, the skills guide server-side Session creation, browser SDK integration and call states. In Claude Code, create new Characters in the Developer Portal; its bundled MCP connection manages existing Characters but cannot create them.
Use a documented Recipe for a packaged image or video process, or connect an app to a published Runway Workflow. The matching skill guides the agent through the actual input and output contract, server-side invocation and result handling.

Install Runway Dev through your tool’s plugin support to add its skills and MCP connection together. Choose one installation method to avoid loading duplicate skills.
This installs Runway Dev from Anthropic’s official marketplace. Its MCP connection cannot create new Characters; create them in the Developer Portal. These steps also work for the Code tab in the Claude desktop app.
