The course walks a reader from installing Copilot CLI through context, workflows, custom agents, MCP servers, and finally chapter 05, "Automate Repetitive Tasks: Skills that load automatically." These four skill files are that chapter's teaching material, built around one running example — a Python book-collection app that gets reviewed, tested, and committed across the course. hello-world is explicit about this: its own description reads "a minimal skill example — use when learning the skill format," and it exists purely so a reader can see a skill fire before writing a real one.

The other three are genuine working skills once separated from the course, even though the course never frames them that way. code-checklist runs a Python code-quality, bug, and security-issue check against the team's own checklist; pytest-gen generates pytest test suites; commit-message writes conventional-commit messages. All three would function as ordinary standalone skills in any Copilot CLI or Claude Code project — nothing about them depends on the course's book-collection app specifically.

READ THE FULL ANALYSIS

Written for Copilot CLI, not verified elsewhere. The whole course, and by extension these four skills, is scoped to GitHub Copilot CLI's own skill-loading feature; the README never discusses compatibility with Claude Code or other agents, so treat any use outside Copilot CLI as untested by the source material itself.

Not all four clear our own bar the same way. Our data marks three of the four ready and leaves commit-message unverified — we haven't confirmed what, if anything, it needs beyond a git repository with staged changes.

Who this is for: someone working through the course itself, or a Copilot CLI user who wants code-checklist, pytest-gen, or commit-message as three ordinary skills once hello-world's placeholder is set aside.

4Work with nothing else to set up.
