OFFICIALLABSCO SUMMARY
The five real skills are boards-my-work (lists work items assigned to you, sorted by recently changed), boards-work-item-summary (summarizes one work item plus its links and comments by ID), pipelines-build-summary (lists and troubleshoots pipeline builds, including logs for failed steps), security-alert-review (Advanced Security alerts — dependency vulnerabilities, secret exposure, code scanning — filterable by severity and state), and work-iterations (lists, creates, and assigns sprint iterations). Our catalog tags four of them as needing the Azure DevOps MCP server and the other one, security-alert-review, as needing nothing further.
This is for a team already on Azure DevOps running GitHub Copilot in VS Code with the Azure DevOps MCP server configured and authenticated — the README points to microsoft/azure-devops-mcp for that setup. Without that server running, none of the five real skills have anything to call.
READ THE FULL ANALYSIS
The sixth "skill" is the repository's own template, not a bug in our capture. The repo separates a template/SKILL.md starter for new skills from the real ones, but the template's own file — name field literally "skill-name," description literally "Description of what the skill does and when to use it" — is stored in a form our catalog reads the same way as a real skill, so it counts alongside the five that do actual work.
The README says this itself: early and thin. "This project is very new and limited in the number of skills defined. We expect to build out more skills over time." Five working skills, all narrowly scoped to boards, pipelines, and iterations, matches that description.

boards-my-work
Azure DevOps is where a lot of teams keep the list of who is doing what; this answers the everyday question of what is currently sitting on your own plate there, without you opening it in a browser.
boards-work-item-summary
Catching up on one ticket you have been away from — it reads the whole thing for you, everything hanging off it included, and tells you the gist in ordinary words instead of handing you a screen of fields.
pipelines-build-summary
When an automated build fails, the part that explains why is buried in a log nobody wants to scroll. This goes and gets only the piece you asked about, rather than dumping the whole run in front of you.
security-alert-review
Azure DevOps can scan a codebase for out-of-date parts with known holes in them, passwords committed by accident, and risky-looking code. This is the desk where somebody sits and works through what it found.
skill-name
work-iterations
A sprint is a fixed block of time a team plans its work into, and every one of them has to be entered and dated in Azure DevOps before anyone can plan against it. This is that chore, done for a whole project at once.
