LABSCO SUMMARY

Summary

bash-tool is Vercel Labs' sandboxed bash-and-file-I/O tool for AI SDK agents, and its two skills are only the example files that demonstrate the library's own optional Skills feature.

The library itself has nothing to do with skills: createBashTool hands an agent three tools — bash to run a shell command, readFile, and writeFile — against either an in-process just-bash sandbox for quick work or a real @vercel/sandbox VM when actual isolation matters. Beyond the basics it covers uploading a local directory into the sandbox, reconnecting to a running sandbox by ID across separate serverless invocations, and intercepting every command through onBeforeBashCall/onAfterBashCall hooks to log, block, or rewrite it before or after it runs.

The separate, marked-experimental Skills feature is a second, optional layer: createSkillTool discovers SKILL.md-based skill folders and hands their files and instructions to the agent alongside the bash tool. The two skills, csv and text, live under the repository's own examples/skills-tool/skills/ directory and exist to show that folder structure working end to end, not as a maintained data-analysis product.

What the two skills actually say.

Each carries a one-line description — "Analyze and transform CSV data using bash tools" and the same for text files — and the README's own example tree shows each backed by a couple of shell scripts (analyze.sh, filter.sh, search.sh).

Who this is for.

A developer already building an agent on Vercel's AI SDK (ToolLoopAgent and friends) who wants a ready-made bash and file toolset instead of writing tool schemas by hand. Someone looking for a real CSV or text-analysis skillset should treat the two shipped here as a demonstration of the mechanism, not as the destination.
