Summary
News lookups stop being a browser detour.
One call covers both ways people follow news: a phrase, or the token for a story or topic already being tracked. Because gl and hl are parameters rather than machine settings, the results are the ones a reader in that country and language would get, which is the difference that matters when the question is how something is being covered elsewhere.
What it is
A single search tool over Google News: a free-text query, or one of the tokens Google News uses for a topic, section, story or publication, with the language and country of the results under your control.
What you get
- Articles and news content searched by free-text query, with results categorised by topic as they come back
- Results scoped to a country with gl and a language with hl
- Coverage addressed by token — topic, section, story or publication — instead of by query string
