Provider credential checks against the official NPI registry.

Credentialing, referrals and trial-investigator checks are answered from the CMS registry itself: who holds an NPI, their specialty and practice location, and whether the number is still active.

What it is

A connector Anthropic built and runs at hcls.mcp.claude.com, which reads the CMS NPPES registry of US National Provider Identifiers (NPIs). It needs no sign-in and no key.

What you get

A quick check that an NPI has the right format and check digit, before any lookup
A provider's record by NPI: credentials, specialty, license state and number, practice address, phone and active status
Providers and organizations found by name, specialty, city, state or ZIP code, with wildcards and nickname matching

Requirements

An MCP client that can reach a remote address. In Claude you add it under Settings > Connectors. In Claude Code you can install it as a plugin from Anthropic's healthcare marketplace.
