The distinction it draws is a real one: other tools tell you where to go, this one tells you what the route will demand — the surface split against your tyres, the gradients on the climb, and the mud you will find when you get there.
A route planner for MTB, gravel, road and e-bike riding that answers in terms of the bike you are riding rather than the map. It aggregates open routing, geospatial and weather data and layers cycling-specific reasoning on top: whether the surface suits your tyres, what the gradients demand, and what the terrain will be like on the day.
- Route planning against a distance and elevation target from a starting point, usable from an MCP client or the project's own GUI
- Surface intelligence — the actual percentage of gravel against asphalt on a route, checked for compatibility with your bike and tyre width
- Visual elevation profiles with gradients called out, so a climb can be paced rather than discovered
- Terrain and weather context — mud risk and rain probability for the time you plan to ride
- Setup advice — tyre pressure for a given rider weight, tyre size and conditions, plus a safety checklist
- Local guides for specific areas, and post-ride analysis that compares your recorded ride against the conditions at the time
Python 3.10, packaged as `bikescout` with an MCP server entry point; the project documentation covers setup for Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex, Google Antigravity and Windsurf as well as the GUI. It aggregates data from open providers and you are bound by their terms: routing and map data from OpenRouteService, geospatial and geocoding data from OpenStreetMap under ODbL with Nominatim, and weather from Open-Meteo under CC BY 4.0. Licensed AGPL-3.0, which means a modified version offered as a network service must publish its source.
