Target-disease evidence from Open Targets, without learning its data model.
For target research it handles the query-writing: gene, disease and drug names become Platform IDs, and one question can run across a whole list of genes or drugs at once.
What it is
The Open Targets consortium's own MCP server, hosted at mcp.platform.opentargets.org. It answers questions from the Open Targets Platform, a public resource for finding and ranking drug targets. It needs no sign-in or key, and Open Targets says it is under active development.
What you get
- Genes, diseases, drugs, variants and studies looked up by their common names
- Any question the Platform's data can answer, run as a query: target-disease links, drug mechanisms, safety and genetic evidence
- The same question asked for many genes, drugs or diseases in one go
- The parts of the Platform's data model that a question needs, so the agent builds the right query
Requirements
An MCP client that can reach a remote address. Anthropic publishes a tutorial for adding it to Claude as a connector. You can also run it on your own machine with uvx or Docker, as the project's GitHub repository explains.
