Query, explore and tune your databases, with guard rails on writes.

Performance work is its strength, explaining slow or failing queries from Insights, the schema and PlanetScale's own index recommendations, and breaking database time down by app route or job.

What it is

A remote MCP server PlanetScale hosts at mcp.pscale.dev/mcp/planetscale. It reaches your PlanetScale organizations, databases, branches, schemas, Insights data and billing. You decide at sign-in whether it gets no access, read-only access or full access to your databases.

What you get

  • Organizations, databases and branches listed, with each branch's schema
  • Read-only SQL queries run, sent to a replica by default when your branch has replicas
  • Write queries (INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE and schema changes) run when you grant full access
  • Query performance insights, failing-query patterns and Postgres server logs
  • Schema recommendations, such as indexes to add or remove
  • Database time broken down by query tag, for example by app route or job
  • Invoices and line items, and the saved payment method viewed or replaced
  • PlanetScale's documentation searched

Requirements

  • A PlanetScale account.
  • You sign in with OAuth and choose its access per organization or per database; payment method access is a separate choice.
  • CI jobs and headless agents can use a PlanetScale service token instead, but Claude.ai and Claude Desktop accept OAuth only.
  • Writes need full access; it blocks UPDATE or DELETE without a WHERE clause and asks for confirmation before schema changes.
  • If you only want monitoring, connect the insights-only address, which has no query tools.
