This server also ships inside Sanity Agent Toolkit — a plugin that installs it already configured.
Plain-language edits to your Sanity content that follow your schema.
Describe the change you need, such as every article still using the old author field or a new product type to fill with demo content. It reads your schema, finds the documents, and leaves the result as drafts or a release for you to review before publishing. The setup around the content is covered too: new projects, datasets, schemas and a hosted Studio.
What it is
An MCP server Sanity runs at mcp.sanity.io, so your client holds only the address. It acts as you: once you sign in, it reaches the organizations, projects and datasets your Sanity role can reach. It replaces Sanity's older local server, @sanity/mcp-server, which Sanity has deprecated and archived.
What you get
- Content queried in GROQ, and any document fetched by its ID
- Search by meaning over a dataset's embeddings indexes. Semantic search reads: Free stops at 500 a month; Growth includes 1,000, then bills $1.50 per 1,000
- Drafts created, up to 25 documents patched per call, then published, unpublished or discarded
- Content releases: open one, add document versions to it, list what is active or scheduled
- The deployed schema read back, a new schema deployed, and a hosted Studio deployed on top of it
- Projects and datasets created, a dataset's name or access settings changed, and CORS origins listed, added or removed
- Images and files uploaded into a dataset from a public link, from a file up to 50 MiB, or from a ChatGPT attachment
- Media Library assets found, retitled and tagged as drafts, grouped into collections, traced to the documents that use them, and linked into document fields
- AI image generation for a document field, and AI changes to an existing image. These draw on your organization's monthly AI credits: 1,000 on Free and Growth, then $0.05 per credit on Growth, and Free cannot buy more. You can switch both off in your MCP client
- Sanity's own documentation and best-practice rules, searched and read from inside the chat
- A short list of Sanity CLI commands, run with no shell and no file access
- A who-am-I check that shows which account and sign-in method the connection is using
Requirements
A Sanity account, and an MCP client that can reach a remote endpoint. Sanity's guide covers Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, OpenCode, v0, Lovable and Replit. When you add the server to your client yourself, you sign in with OAuth in the browser, and the session typically lasts 7 days. You can send a Sanity API token in an Authorization header instead. The agent then works with that token's role, not yours. Media Library tools also need Media Library switched on for your organization.
Setup effort
Paste a URL, then authorize — add the endpoint to your client, then approve the OAuth consent screen
