Search, extract, answer and cited research in one endpoint — with a no-auth free tier and tool scoping.
LABSCO SUMMARY
Being able to restrict which tools register means you can take search and extraction without carrying the research tools' definitions on every turn — the standing cost becomes a choice rather than a given. The free tier without credentials removes the other barrier: you can evaluate whether the results are good before creating an account. On the research tool, the effort setting and structured output schema are the two parameters worth learning; a cited synthesis returned in the shape you asked for is considerably more useful than prose you then have to parse.
You.com's endpoint, spanning the range from a fast answer to a synthesised research report with inline citations.
An API key as a bearer token, or OAuth 2.1. A free tier is available by adding a profile parameter, with no authentication. Which tools appear can be scoped by parameter or environment variable.
Paste a URL, then authorize — add the endpoint to your client, then approve the OAuth consent screen
USE CASES
Search with domains boosted or excluded, then read the pages.
One synthesised answer with inline citations.
Cited synthesis with an effort level and a structured output shape.
Scope which tools register with a ?tools= list on the endpoint URL, rather than taking all six.
Counted once with only startup setup. Other versions, modes or optional credentials may expose a different list.
you-answerFast live-web answer generation returning one synthesized answer with verified inline citations, citation excerpts, and supporting web results. Use when the caller wants a single sourced answer; use research for deeper multi-step investigation, effort control, structured output, or background tasks. Supports freshness, country, language, and domain filters.
you-balanceGet the remaining credit balance for the billing entity associated with your You.com API key. Balance is in cents (divide by 100 for USD).
you-contentsExtract full content from specific URLs in markdown, HTML, or structured metadata. Use when you already have URLs and need to read them before relying on exact details.
you-discoverDiscover AI agents, MCP servers, A2A agents, and skills via ARD Agent Finder services. Search-only — never installs or connects. Returns ranked results with relevance scores.
you-researchOne-shot cited synthesis — research a topic and return a concise answer with inline citations and source list. Use when a synthesized, sourced answer is needed rather than raw search results. Configurable effort levels (lite, standard, deep, exhaustive, frontier).
you-searchCurrent web and news search returning snippets, source URLs, and metadata. Default for finding current information; supports domain, country, language, and freshness filters, and extraction (highlights or full page content). For multi-part questions, issue a separate focused query per sub-question — one facet each, not the whole question.
