Writes the rules that decide who may read and change each record in your Firestore database, worked out from what your app's code actually does — and handed over as a first draft to review, not a guarantee.

WHEN TO USE

SCOPE

USE FOR

  • Lock a Firestore database down so each user can only read and change their own records.
  • Keep private details such as email addresses visible only to their owner, even with public profiles.
  • Stop users from making themselves administrators or changing their own permissions.
  • Cap the size of every text field so nobody can stuff a record with huge amounts of junk.
  • Make sure the new rules still allow every search your app actually runs.
  • Decide whether the rules need changing once the app starts hitting permission-denied errors.
