The hf command line, run for you.

hf-cli teaches the assistant hf, so jobs you would otherwise do by clicking around the site become commands it runs for you.

What sits on that site is other people's work, published openly: models to download, datasets to explore, and small hosted demos to try in a browser.

The hf program itself is not part of the skill; it has to be installed on its own before the skill can use it.

What it can do on the site.

What the tool reaches:

  • downloads and uploads of models, datasets and demo Spaces
  • repositories, and the discussions and pull requests on them
  • research papers, searched and opened, and datasets queried
  • jobs run or scheduled on Hugging Face infrastructure, and its hosted inference endpoints
  • sign-in, and the local cache of past downloads

It replaces huggingface-cli, the older tool, which is deprecated.

Hugging Face's other skills are a separate step.

Hugging Face publishes more skills than this one in the same repository, for dataset creation, model training, evaluation and research-paper publishing.

Installing hf-cli does not bring them. hf-cli is the skill that can add them once it is in place.

The parts that write to your account.

Signing in is one of the jobs it handles. Anything that writes — an upload, a new repository, a compute job — happens under the account you sign in with.
