LabscoMCP early access ↗

Where should an app keep its files, its settings and its actual data on Vercel? This walks through the options, what each one is good at, and which older ones have been retired.

WHEN TO USE

SCOPE

USE FOR

  • Decide between Neon, Upstash, Supabase, and other databases for a new project.
  • Store and serve user-uploaded files and media through Vercel Blob.
  • Read settings or feature-flag values instantly, without a database call on every request.
  • Migrate an old project off the sunset @vercel/postgres or @vercel/kv packages.
  • Provision a database automatically through the Vercel Marketplace.

NOT FOR

  • Global Config for user data, session state, or anything written often — it's built for reads, not writes.
  • Vercel Blob's private access mode for files that must be served publicly — it's slow and costly for that.
