Connect an app to Neon
Ask your assistant to choose a connection method for your runtime or integrate an ORM such as Drizzle. The Postgres guidance covers drivers, connection strings, and pooled versus direct connections.
Bring Neon database guidance and API tools into your coding assistant for Postgres development.
The Neon plugin pairs task-specific skills with the Neon MCP Server, helping your coding assistant choose database connections, work with branches, and manage projects or run SQL. The assistant can load a matching skill when you describe a task in natural language; you can also ask it to use a skill explicitly.
The skills also guide application backend work with Auth, Functions, Object Storage, AI Gateway, and Realtime. In Claude Code and Cursor, you can select a skill from the chat’s slash menu to invoke it directly.
Ask your assistant to choose a connection method for your runtime or integrate an ORM such as Drizzle. The Postgres guidance covers drivers, connection strings, and pooled versus direct connections.
Use the Postgres skill’s branching guidance to choose an isolated test environment: a normal branch for testing with realistic data, or a schema-only branch when production rows must stay out of development.
Ask the Postgres skill to investigate queries that return more data than the application uses. Its workflow connects database statistics with code review, query changes, and a check that data transfer has fallen.
With the Auth skill installed, ask your assistant to set up Managed Better Auth or assess whether a required feature needs self-managed Better Auth. The skill also guides it to preserve an existing identity provider unless you request a migration.
With the relevant platform skills installed, ask your assistant to deploy a Node.js HTTP function, add S3-compatible file storage, or route model calls through Neon AI Gateway.
Skills supply instructions for specific tasks; the Neon MCP Server supplies tools for live database and project operations. The Claude Code and Cursor packages include the skills below and the Neon MCP Server.
