SCOPE

USE FOR

Store document embeddings with metadata for a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) app.
Run a similarity search over embeddings, filtered by metadata like source or category.
Persist a collection to disk so it survives a restart, then reopen it later.
Swap in a different embedding function — OpenAI, HuggingFace, or a custom one.
Plug Chroma in as the vector store behind a LangChain or LlamaIndex retriever.

NOT FOR

For a managed, auto-scaling cloud vector store, use Pinecone instead.
For pure similarity search with no metadata, use FAISS instead.
For a production ML-native database, use Weaviate instead.
For the fastest performance on a Rust-based engine, use Qdrant instead.
