Do people come back, how often do they show up, and are you gaining users faster than you are quietly losing them? This builds all three answers from the same stream of activity, as tables other reports can reuse.

WHEN TO USE

SCOPE

USE FOR

  • Build a week-by-week table of what share of each sign-up group came back to the core feature.
  • Find your most engaged users by counting how many days in a month each person was active.
  • Spot a leaky bucket, where users go dormant faster than returning users replace them.
  • See whether a win-back campaign worked from a jump in lapsed users coming back.
  • Measure all three per customer account instead of per person for a business product.
  • Build the same return, frequency and growth tables as dbt models.

NOT FOR

  • A quick one-off look at retention — PostHog's own retention, stickiness and lifecycle charts fit better.
