How to work on a stored skill without dragging the whole thing back and forth — read only the part you need, change only the line you meant to change, and don't overwrite what someone else just saved.

WHEN TO USE

SCOPE

USE FOR

  • Pick the narrowest way to make a particular edit instead of replacing everything.
  • Fix a skill write that got rejected because its version number was stale.
  • Work through a skill with many bundled files without fetching all of them at once.
  • Know when to write a brand-new skill versus edit an existing one in place.

NOT FOR

  • A one-off task's instructions belong in the conversation, not in a saved skill.
  • A personal scratchpad belongs in agent memory or local files, not a shared skill.
  • Code that a service runs belongs in the repo, not in a skill.
