An A/B test moves through states — draft, running, paused, ended, shipped, archived — and each move changes who sees which version and whose data still counts; this is the guide to which move you actually want.

WHEN TO USE

SCOPE

USE FOR

  • Launch a finished draft so people start being split between the versions.
  • Stop enrolling new users in an experiment while keeping the numbers flowing for existing ones.
  • Ship the winning variant to 100% of users once an experiment has a clear result.
  • Roll a long-running experiment back to draft to start over from scratch.
  • Copy an experiment into a different project instead of duplicating it in the same one.

NOT FOR

  • Creating a brand-new experiment from scratch; that's creating-experiments.
  • Configuring an experiment's rollout percentage or targeting; that's configuring-experiment-rollout.
  • Setting up which metrics an experiment tracks; that's configuring-experiment-analytics.
