USE FOR

Get an assessment report before converting an AWS Lambda function to Azure Functions.
Convert an app running on AWS Elastic Beanstalk to Azure App Service.
Migrate a Heroku or Google App Engine app to Azure App Service.
Move an AWS Fargate or managed Kubernetes (e.g., Google GKE, Amazon EKS) workload to Azure Container Apps.
Migrate a Spring Boot service to Azure Container Apps.
Catch addresses baked into the code that will stop resolving after the move.

NOT FOR

Provisioning infrastructure or deploying to Azure; hand off to azure-prepare for that.

Azure Cloud Migrate

This skill handles assessment and code migration of existing cloud workloads to Azure.

Rules

Follow phases sequentially — do not skip
Generate assessment before any code migration
Load the scenario reference and follow its rules
Use mcp_azure_mcp_get_azure_bestpractices and mcp_azure_mcp_documentation MCP tools
Use the latest supported runtime for the target service
Destructive actions require ask_user — functions global-rules | app-service global-rules
Report progress to user — During long-running operations (deployments, image pushes), provide resource-level status updates so the user is never left waiting without feedback — see workflow-details.md
Audit service discovery in app code — Kubernetes DNS names (e.g., http://order-service:3001) do not resolve in Container Apps. During assessment, scan source code for hardcoded hostnames/ports in HTTP clients and flag them for env-var-driven URL injection

Output Directory

All output goes to <workspace-root-basename>-azure/ at workspace root, where <workspace-root-basename> is the name of the top-level workspace directory itself (NOT a subdirectory within it). Never modify the source directory.

Steps

Create <workspace-root-basename>-azure/ at workspace root
Assess — Analyze source, map services, generate report using the scenario-specific assessment guide → functions assessment | app-service assessment
Migrate — Convert code/config using the scenario-specific migration guide → functions code-migration | app-service code-migration
Ask User — "Migration complete. Test locally or deploy to Azure?"
Hand off to azure-prepare for infrastructure, testing, and deployment

This skill ships inside the Azure Skills Plugin. Listed package contents include hooks and an MCP server. Installed components and skill versions may vary by AI tool.

Run this outside your AI tool, using Node.js 22.20.0 or newer. Skills CLI 1.7.2 skips skill selection; prompts cancel installation without an interactive terminal. If choosing Project when asked about installation scope, open your project's folder before running this.

Install checklist

Check selected tools if a picker appears; Claude Code may be unchecked under Additional agents. ↑/↓ moves, Space toggles selections, Enter confirms.
Without a tool picker, check Installing to: for your intended tool. Stop if it names a different tool.
If asked, choose Symlink (Recommended) for shared files or Copy to all agents for separate copies; review the summary before confirming installation.
Install the find-skills skill? defaults to Yes, adding another skill for all projects. Choose No if you don't want that extra installation.

Skills CLI 1.7.2 sends install data to skills.sh by default, including the source, skill names, target tools and file details; GitHub sources are reported only when GitHub confirms the repository is public, while other remote sources can also be reported. Confirmed-public GitHub sources also trigger a security-audit request. Before installing, set the environment variable DO_NOT_TRACK=1 or DISABLE_TELEMETRY=1 to disable both.
