USE FOR

Check whether your Bicep or Terraform infrastructure is ready before you deploy.
Verify that role assignments and managed identity permissions are set up correctly.
Run a what-if analysis to catch configuration problems before they reach Azure.
Troubleshoot a stalled or failing Azure deployment by finding which check fails.

Azure Validate

AUTHORITATIVE GUIDANCE — Follow these instructions exactly unless they contradict security policies given to you.

⛔ STOP — PREREQUISITE CHECK REQUIRED

Before proceeding, verify this prerequisite is met:

azure-prepare was invoked and completed → .azure/deployment-plan.md exists with status Approved or later

If the plan is missing, STOP IMMEDIATELY and invoke azure-prepare first.

The complete workflow ensures success:

azure-prepare → azure-validate → azure-deploy

Steps

Run the workflow script and follow its instructions. It walks you through each validation step one at a time, recording progress in .azure/validate-status.json. Use references/scripts/workflow.ps1 on Windows or references/scripts/workflow.sh on macOS/Linux.

Start by calling the script without the completed-step argument:

Each run prints the next action and the value to pass next. Perform the action, then re-run with that value (-CompletedStep <value> for pwsh, --completed-step <value> for bash). Repeat until it reports the azure-validate workflow is complete.

⛔ VALIDATION AUTHORITY

This skill is the officially verified way to set plan status to Validated. You MUST follow the script's instructions to completion before setting status to Validated. Do NOT set status to Validated without doing so.

⚠️ NEXT STEP — DEPENDS ON USER INTENT

After ALL validations pass, check whether the user asked to deploy:

If the user explicitly requested deployment, you MUST invoke azure-deploy to execute it. Do NOT run azd up, azd deploy, or any deployment commands directly — let azure-deploy handle execution.

If the user only asked to validate or prepare (not deploy), STOP after recording proof and setting status to Validated. Report the validation results and do NOT invoke azure-deploy.

If any validation failed, fix the issues and re-run azure-validate before proceeding.

This skill ships inside the Azure Skills Plugin. Listed package contents include hooks and an MCP server. Installed components and skill versions may vary by AI tool.

Run this outside your AI tool, using Node.js 22.20.0 or newer. Skills CLI 1.7.2 skips skill selection; prompts cancel installation without an interactive terminal. If choosing Project when asked about installation scope, open your project's folder before running this.

Install checklist

Check selected tools if a picker appears; Claude Code may be unchecked under Additional agents. ↑/↓ moves, Space toggles selections, Enter confirms.
Without a tool picker, check Installing to: for your intended tool. Stop if it names a different tool.
If asked, choose Symlink (Recommended) for shared files or Copy to all agents for separate copies; review the summary before confirming installation.
Install the find-skills skill? defaults to Yes, adding another skill for all projects. Choose No if you don't want that extra installation.

Skills CLI 1.7.2 sends install data to skills.sh by default, including the source, skill names, target tools and file details; GitHub sources are reported only when GitHub confirms the repository is public, while other remote sources can also be reported. Confirmed-public GitHub sources also trigger a security-audit request. Before installing, set the environment variable DO_NOT_TRACK=1 or DISABLE_TELEMETRY=1 to disable both.
