Talking to a SQL database from Go without an ORM: queries a user cannot tamper with, transactions that hold under concurrent writes, and a connection pool sized so the database stays up.

WHEN TO USE

SCOPE

USE FOR

  • Write a parameterized query instead of concatenating user input into SQL.
  • Wrap a multi-statement write in a transaction with the right isolation level.
  • Handle a NULLable column with a pointer field or the matching sql.Null type.
  • Distinguish sql.ErrNoRows from a real error and translate it into a domain error.
  • Size a connection pool with SetMaxOpenConns, SetMaxIdleConns, and SetConnMaxLifetime.

NOT FOR

  • Does not generate database schemas, migration SQL, or review schema design changes.
